The waiting, as a great man once said, is the hardest part. Amazon's new promotion is great news for anyone who can't possibly wait out shipping times, in order to watch a newly purchased DVD. The site is giving users who purchase a select number of DVDs or Blu-ray the ability to watch the movie instantly via Amazon On Demand. The promotion is known as "Disc + Demand".
At present, according to NewTeeVee, the list is currently limited to 300 titles--a very small percentage of site's total offering of 330,000 titles. The promotion, according to Amazon, is available for a limited time only.
Of course, Netflix has had its "Watch Instantly" promotion for months now, also limited to a subset of the movies it offers. But Netflix movies can also be watched separately, no matter what movies customers rent via its mail service.
All said, it's probably best taken advantage of by those who buying DVDs as a holiday gift and wouldn't mind holding onto a download for themselves.
